Howdy! I am “Ramblin’” Dan Kautz. Proprietor of Ramblin Dan’s Store. We are located in Frisco, Texas located just north of Dallas, Texas. Frisco, TX was just reported Frisco is the fastest growing city in the entire USA!
Operating ecommerce only, we are also known as The Hobbyist Machine Store (THMS), which was formally established in 2007. We use both names, adding “Ramblin’ Dan’s Store” (RDS) to help indicate we serve more than the hobbyist market with our primary line of Taig Tools. Some of our invoices indicate the THMS identification.
I am a hands on owner, owning and using all the tools we offer in my own workshop and studio. Follow all the Companion Links and menu tab selections from Ramblin’ Dan’s Workshop to understand the real Ramblin’ Dan.
The products displayed here are far more than hobbyist toys. They are industrial quality working machine tools capable of long term, accurate machine work at a very professional standard. They are micro tools for sure, and must be used within their capability. Here in the RDS we have two Taig CNC micro mills and a Taig Micro lathe in operation. Many larger machine tools also. We use the correct machine for the job.
The Taig CNC micro mills are outstanding for micro 3D wax carving for making lost wax casting masters for my silver jewelry business. Run times can be as long as four to six hours using milling bits as small as 0.003 tip diameter. Outstanding accuracy and repeatability. My first Taig mill has been in operation since May, 2005 (12+ years) and maintains the same quality as my newer mill. Here is a link where I assembled the first mill when new.
Great products sold by a real user. “Ask the man who own’s one…”
Now Available from Taig!
Taig Tools is now producing small high-quality CNC lathes they have named the , “TAIGTurn Lathe” These machines are available with and without ball screws and a choice of ER16 or (NEW!) 5C spindles!
CNC lathes are usually not a high demand item for casual home machinists or hobbyists. However, if your work requires an affordable micro sized CNC lathe for repeat or production work, these machines are well qualified for the job. The ball screw and 5C version make a very professional micro machine collet (only) lathe.
Machines are available with and without the control package which includes steppers, wiring, controller and software.
There is a new TAIGTurn Lathe product category section added to RDS under Machine Tools.
Pictures are a little scarce. Peruse the Taig Tool, MicroProto Systems and Taigmachines websites for more details. Here is a great series of How-To videos by John Herzog. https://www.youtube.com/user/jjjherzog/videos
Here is one of my Taig CNC Micro-Mills is use carving wax with a 0.003" tapered ball end milling bit. This mill runs at top speed all day long when required. I have another CNC Micro-Mill set up with mist cooling for metal work. This is a precision machine for demanding work
On the right side of the spindle I have installed a home made Chip blower to clear the wax chips from the cutting area. It is less intrusive than an attached vacuum. The wax chips are easily vacuumed up later.
Note the reminder to keep fingers away from the open drive! (Click Picture)
Here is a link to an article about the blower attachment. It contains a video of the mill in action.
High-Speed Spindle Installed on Taig mill by Ramblin' Dan.
This is NOT a Taig component. It is a DIY conversion project, designed and installed by RDS. Many owners customize Taig equipment to meet their own needs. This is one example. Follow This LINK for additional information on the conversion project.

No Direct Export Sales
Because the factory drop shipping is beyond the control of RDS, export shipping on Taig Tool machine product is not supported by the discount pricing shown in this store. No export orders outside the continental USA will be accepted. All advanced payments made through the store will be returned and export orders canceled. Hawaii and Alaska orders will be evaluated for adequate shipping costs.
Contact RDS by email for additional information. Exports require much higher additional handling and shipping fees from factory to RDS, then from RDS to customer. RDS is not able or willing to provide low volume shipping by LCL ocean freight.
Thank you for visiting RDS!
